In Paris

Well we have arrived!!!  No serious problems on the flight, except that if you ever fly Air France on an A340, it was the most uncomfortable flight I have ever had. The seats are so close together that when the person in front of me reclined their seat, I had no place for my knees. And the kids across the aisle from me were so restless, that sleep was impossible.

Aside from that, all flights were on time and we arrived in Paris Sunday morning about 11:30. We were at the hotel by 1:00 PM and had a pleasant dinner at a local brassier. The tour actually started today. Weather is cold, with a chance of rain later in the week. I haven;t figured out how to upload photos on the computer in the hotel yet, but when i do, I will be sure to upload some.

More later…

I haven’t Posted in a Week??

Wow, I haven’t updated for a week… Well, to catch you up…

I drove up to Albuquerque last week for the AARP tax class. I am an instructor here in Las Cruces, so I had to take my test before I am allowed to instruct anyone. Yes, I passed. I just have to say though, that the drive up I25 between here and Albuquerque has got to be one of the most scenic interstate drives in the country. Last Tuesday, a cold front had just passed through he state, and the storm line was exiting to the East. The sky was crystal clear, and the various mountain ranges stood out with great clarity. Off in the distance were storm clouds and it was simply dramatic and starkly beautiful. I do love this country.

Granted, the drive up is pretty empty except for the scenery. There are few towns between her and Albuquerque. It is an hour’s drive to T or C (thats Truth Or Consequences , New Mexico) and then another hour to Socorro. Since I25 is one of the lesser traveled interstates (at least in the southern half of NM) cell towers are far apart, and I did loose my cell phone signal once or twice. Remember when we didn’t worry about cell phone connections? There are times when I would like to be out of touch for a while.

Now that the tax test is out of the way, and we have our Christmas cards in the mail, I won’t even be thinking about taxes. We are off to Paris on Saturday. Here is a link for you. This web-cam view of the Eiffel Tower is (I think…) from the North, somewhere around the Trocadero. If I am correct, our hotel is to the left of the picture. Check it out. I’ll wave to you after we get there. If we have internet access from the hotel, or a cyber cafe nearby, I will update my site from Paris. I’ll even try to upload a picture or two.

Tax Time is Just Around the Corner

I’m off to Albuquerque Tuesday. Time for the AARP TaxAide state meeting. Yes, believe it or not, tax time is just arouind the corner. I have taken the test, and it will be graded at the meeting. Then, as soon as we get back from Paris, it will be time to get the class ready to teach. We start actual tax preparation on February 1, 2008.

The last couple of weeks have been extremely busy (for a retired guy)! We are finishing up getting ready for Paris, working on the Tax class, and doing the usual volunteer jobs at Meals-on-Wheels and at Dripping Springs. In addition, we had to take the pup back to the canine ophthalmologist . He goes back again next Tuesday, and then Saturday it is on the plane. Click HERE!!

We did get some good news about the puppy. The vet said that the eye was healing normally, and that after the healing process is done, they will change his medicine to something that is supposed to get rid of the scar tissue. He may actually get some of his eyesight back!! We are hopeful, but not expecting any real improvement.
