Overexposure Leads to Parody

Well, if you haven’t seen the Jill and Kevin wedding entrance dance by now, you are one of 3 people in the US. Really, that video became the most viewed video on YouTube so fast it was breathtaking. In just 10 days, it had over 12 million views, and was linked on over 100 other sites. That easily beat the second place video by a margin of 4 to 1. Of course there have been countless comments about it. Some of the comments I have read on related blogs and web sites have been so mean-spirited and vicious it is disgusting. When I first saw the video, I felt it was a quirky and fun way to make their wedding day even more memorable. Honestly, I wish I were that inventive and original. Well that’s the internet for you. Bitter lonely people can hide behind anonymous screen names and make pointless mean-spirited comments about those who are more creative and likable than they are.

Needless to say, when something on the web becomes a phenomenon it quickly becomes the subject for parody. One of the funniest I’ve seen is on the College Humor website. (Warning… College Humor is often NSFW.) They did a Divorce Dance parody which is humorous and cute. So, here it is.

Also, if you haven’t seen Jill and Kevin on Today or GMA, here is a link to an article about them. This is where I saw some really nasty comments, but I’ve noticed that the worst have been removed.
