Fear Strikes Out

I think that is an apt explanation for the election results. It seems to me that Obama’s win was a victory for the politics of inclusion and hope, and a repudiation of the politics of fear and hate. Barack’s acceptance speech was very good, and it set the right tone for the work ahead. He didn’t set high expectations and warned of the pit falls that abound. But it was a message of hope. In fairness, McCain’s concession speech was also very good. It was conciliatory and also hopeful. If only he had sounded that way during the campaign, he might have had a better chance.
